In 2018, Sarah James Fulcher and Carteret County Parks & Recreation formed a partnership to install a handicap-accessible, inclusive play set at Eastern Park in Smyrna, N.C. The play set has been installed at the Park, and is named in honor of Sarah James Fulcher. The proceeds from the First Annual Sarah James Fulcher Redfish Tournament were used to make this installation possible, and the play set will allow all children from all over Carteret County, especially the northern portions, to have a place to play. Sarah James Fulcher is currently pursuing partnerships and avenues to complete the full play set, as can be seen in the bottom renderings, as well as complete installations at other County parks. Phase Two was completed in May 2020, with the generous support of the Big Rock Tournament’s Charitable Committee, providing a $15,000 grant to Sarah James Fulcher and allowing our impact to be spread across Down East.

Groundbreaking:

On June 19, 2019, a ground-breaking ceremony was held at Eastern Park in Smyrna, NC for the new installation of the inclusive play-set in honor of Sarah James Fulcher. Members of her family and Sarah James Fulcher were present to celebrate!
