Down East Duck Run

We are so excited to be able to co-host this event in honor of Stephanie Fulcher, who was the co-founder of Sarah James Fulcher & a dear friend. The Down East Duck Run 5K will be held in Atlantic, North Carolina on Feburary 11th at 9am & costs $30 to register.

“On February 13th, 2022,

A privately owned Pilatus PC-12 leaving Englehard, North Carolina, went down three miles east of Drum Inlet in Cape Lookout National Seashore in about 60 feet of water. There were eight people on board, including four teenagers, who attended East Carteret Hight School, all best friends, avid duck hunters, and who recently participated in a youth day waterfowl hunt at Lake Mattamuskeet. The crash yielded no survivors and devastated countless families in the surrounding Down East communities.

Those killed in the crash were pilot Ernest “Teen” Rawls, 67, of Greenville; his adult son Jeffrey Rawls, 28, of Greenville who carried a student pilot license; Stephanie Fulcher, 42, of Sea Level; Douglas “Hunter” Parks, 45, of Sea Level and partner of Stephanie Fulcher; Jonathan “Kole” McInnis, 15, of Sea Level and son of Stephanie Fulcher; Noah Styron, 15, of Cedar Island; Michael “Daily” Shepard, 15, of Atlantic; and Jacob “Jake” Taylor, 16, of Atlantic.

Stephanie Fulcher was a member of the Facebook group “Intermittent Fasting for Women of Eastern NC”, a group of nearly 40 women who supported one another in their pursuits of active lifestyles, through healthy diet and fitness. To honor Stephanie, fellow group members and life-long friends have come together to remember her through the establishment of a 5K race charity event called the Down East Duck Run, in the hopes of raising funds to be used in the support of Down East communities, particularly in the promotion of outdoor recreation, something Stephanie held dear. Donations and proceeds from the race will be collected by Sarah James Fulcher.

“Sarah James Fulcher is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in 2017 by eastern North Carolina natives. We use innovative methods to raise funds for community-level projects that are inclusive, needed, and promote recreation in the outdoors, as well as develop conservation approaches that are unique and effective. Sarah James Fulcher focuses on inclusive recreation, community development, and conservation. We implement community projects, hold and monitor conservation easements, and help stakeholders and landowners plan their natural resource management for beneficiaries and future generations.”
